38 Hour Teen Driving Course
This class is required by students ages 14 years (& 9 months) through 17 years for a learners permit in Louisiana.

Our 38 Hour Driving Course is a two-phase program consisting of: (1) 30 hours of classroom instruction and (2) Behind-the-wheel instruction for 8 hours.

The course will build a solid foundation of knowledge and practice for students by teaching laws of the road with emphasis on the effects of alcohol, drugs, driving distractions, and much more.
Important Information
TIP CARD REQUIREMENT FOR ANYONE ATTENDING A DRIVERS ED CLASS: Prior to attending the first day of any in-person Driver’s Education class, your teen must obtain the Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP card) from the Office of Motor Vehicles. This rule applies to anyone in the State of Louisiana (regardless of age) that wishes to obtain a Drivers License, both Teens and Adults.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PARENTS: The TIP card can only be obtained by going to the DMV with your child, you cannot go on their behalf.

AGE REQUIREMENT REMINDER: Please be cognizant of your child's age at the time they will be attending Driver's Education class. It is important that your child is/will be enrolled in the correct course. The 38 hour teen driving course is designed for students that are between the ages of 14 years and 9 months to 17 years of age. If your child is 18 years or older on the first day of class, you will be turned away as anyone 18 years and older must enroll in the Adult Driver's Education course. This is a rule established by the Louisiana OMV.

DMV LOCATIONS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY and you will be turned away if you show up without an appointment. You may make an appointment by visiting the Louisiana OMV website at https://www.expresslane.org/Pages/default.aspx. You will find the most up-to-date information on DMV locations that are open, accepted documents, etc. Please do not delay in going to the DMV and waiting until the last minute. You may schedule an appointment online ahead of time. When you visit the DMV website, look for "Book Appointment" and follow the prompts to select a DMV location. You will want to make an appointment for a "First Time Drivers License" to get the TIP card.
